 | | | | I am sincerely grateful for your support. Personally, it means more than I can ever express. My family and I thank you for all of your hard work, contributions, encouragement, and prayers. We will never forget you. You will always have a place in our hearts. | | | While “our reach exceeded our grasp,” our campaign was about more than one particular election. Now we must work all the harder for our shared issues, values and principles. It is more important than ever that we work together to elect the entire Democratic ticket in November. | | | Only by working together were we able to take back Dallas County in 2006. Only by working together were we able to beat back the counterattack in 2008. Please join me in completing the job by electing a straight Democratic ticket in 2010. | - Larry Duncan | Working Together for Change Dear Democrats, Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you and our community for nearly 30 years as an advocate for homeowners, a city councilman, and currently President of the Dallas County Schools Board of Trustees. My work as a community organizer has clearly shown that we can accomplish much more together than we could individually. I ask you to join me in bringing that change to the services that Dallas County has to offer all of us.
When I joined the Board of Trustees, the Dallas County Schools was rife with problems. Its workers were underpaid in violation of federal labor law and threatened with termination if they attempted to organize. I worked closely with the Texas State Teachers Association (TSTA) to give workers their rights back. I have worked to make Dallas County Schools a profitable institution that will not need to layoff staff despite economic hardship throughout the county. I worked with the City of Dallas to put pressure to shut down pollution-spewing "wet kiln" cement plants in Midlothian, and have worked to convert our fleet of school buses to use waste vegetable oil to help make Dallas County greener. This is the kind of strong leadership I want to bring to the Dallas County Commissioner's Court.
I helped lead the campaign to change the Dallas City Council to single-member districts so that all residents throughout the city could be equally represented. I was proud to be one of the first elected City Councilmembers from the newly created single-member districts. During my four terms as a City Councilmember, I was twice awarded "Best City Councilmember" by the Dallas Observer for my hard work and dedication to the people I represented.
I am proud of my record of civil service, and would be honored to serve as your next County Judge on the Dallas County Commissioner's Court. I look forward to your support and working together to lead Dallas County into a brighter, prosperous, and greener future.
Sincerely, .gif)
